FAQ #1

What is Punditude?

Everybody's got an opinion. Everybody think's he's an expert. Everybody thinks he knows the future. Everywhere you turn, a pundit is offering opinions and predictions about news and politics. They're on TV, in print media, on the internet, and on the radio pontificating and prognosticating. Who should you trust? Who has the most credibility? Who has a track record of making accurate predictions?

Punditude is a community devoted to holding Pundits accountable for the predictions they make. While we originally wanted to track only the performance of well-known professional pundits, our system is now set up to allow everybody to participate. How do you stack up against your favorite pundit?

Punditude was created to catalog and analyze predictions made by pundits in order to make an objective determination about accuracy and credibility. We've analyzed hundreds of political predictions made by pundits since January 1, 2000. Although far from comprehensive, our database grows every day.

Punditude can be used by anybody to do investigative research. In addition, anybody can create a user account and begin registering their own predictions by taking positions on existing predictions. Almost every day, the site admins create one or more "Featured Predictions" related to newsworthy events that we expect to be resolved over the next few days or weeks. Whenever a prediction that you have a position on is resolved, your PunditScore is adjusted accordingly!

Our current efforts are two-fold. First, continue documenting predictions that have been made by professional pundits since January, 2000. Second, maintain our own set of "Featured Predictions" that will keep our users interested and entertained, and ensure that they want to visit the site every day.

Our current focus is on predictions related to politics and current events, with special emphasis on the U.S. We hope to be able to support a future expansion that includes increased coverage of other areas, like Entertainment, Sports, etc.
